The Skydance Warner Bros merger is now official, creating a major entertainment company with control of Warner Bros. studios, Paramount Pictures, HBO, CBS, CNN and several streaming platforms. Paramount Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026. For subscribers, however, the immediate changes are more limited than the scale of the deal might suggest.
According to the companies’ official merger announcement, the combination brings two major studios, streaming services and extensive film and television libraries under one corporate umbrella.
HBO Max and Paramount+ Remain Separate
Subscribers do not need to download a replacement app or change their existing subscriptions immediately. The official HBO Max merger FAQ says there are no immediate changes to the app, pricing, subscription access or content library. Paramount+ has issued similar guidance through its subscriber questions and answers page.
That means customers who pay for both services should continue using them separately for now. The new company has indicated that it wants to unify its direct-to-consumer streaming products over time, but a final launch date, subscription structure and complete pricing plan have not been announced.

Discovery+ Subscribers Face a Price Change
There is one important near-term detail. Discovery+ raised its U.S. subscription prices on October 13, shortly after the merger closed. The ad-supported plan increased to $6.99 per month, while the ad-free plan rose to $11.99 per month.
TheWrap’s report on the price increase said the changes applied to new customers first, with existing subscribers receiving a 30-day window before their next billing period. The report also noted that the increase had been planned before the acquisition closed, so it should not automatically be attributed to the merger.
What Could Change in the Future?
The new company now has a broader content library, including HBO programming, Warner Bros. films, Paramount franchises and Discovery’s reality and lifestyle shows. A future combined service could give customers access to more titles in one place, potentially changing how households choose streaming subscriptions.
However, bundling could also create new pricing tiers or force difficult decisions about which content remains exclusive. Reuters’ merger coverage explains the strategic scale of the acquisition and the challenge of integrating the two entertainment businesses.
The Washington Post also reported on the deal’s impact across Hollywood, streaming and news. The combined company must now balance cost savings, content investment and competition with services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video.

What Subscribers Should Do Now
For now, check your subscription renewal date and any billing notices, especially if you use Discovery+. Keep your existing apps and watch for official announcements before making changes. The merger creates the possibility of a different streaming experience, but immediate consolidation of HBO Max and Paramount+ has not occurred.
The real test will be whether Skydance can offer a more convenient content library without making subscriptions more expensive or reducing the shows viewers value most.
