Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Part II has encountered another production setback, raising questions about the future of DC’s highly anticipated sequel. The film’s latest interruption comes as director Matt Reeves temporarily steps away for a family matter. Steven Soderbergh is now expected to oversee the remaining principal photography, while Reeves plans to return for post-production.
Why The Batman Part II Faced Another Pause
Production on The Batman Part II began in London in June 2026 after years of script development and scheduling changes. On October 5, Warner Bros. and DC Studios confirmed that filming had been temporarily paused while Reeves attended to a family matter.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the studio expressed support for Reeves and said it looked forward to continuing the project. The announcement did not establish whether the pause would affect the planned theatrical release.

Pattinson subsequently addressed the situation during promotional appearances in London. As Variety reported, the actor acknowledged that filming would pause briefly while the team worked out the next steps.
Steven Soderbergh Steps In
A significant development emerged on October 16, when reports from People and Entertainment Weekly said Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh would step in to direct the remaining principal photography.
Reeves clarified that he was not leaving the film and was expected to return to oversee post-production. The temporary arrangement aims to keep filming moving while respecting Reeves’ circumstances.
The change is notable because Reeves established the grounded, atmospheric style of 2022’s The Batman. Maintaining continuity with his vision will be important as the production moves forward.

Will the Release Date Change Again?
Warner Bros. currently lists February 18, 2028, as the theatrical release date. The film was previously scheduled for October 2026 and later moved to October 2027 before receiving its latest date.
According to TheWrap, the February 2028 date followed earlier production and scheduling changes. The latest interruption has not, by itself, confirmed another postponement.
The sequel brings back Pattinson as Batman, alongside Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred. New cast members include Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.
For fans, the key question is whether the production can complete filming and post-production without further disruption. Until the studio announces otherwise, February 18, 2028, remains the target.
Despite the delays, interest in Pattinson’s return to Gotham remains strong. The next official production update should provide a clearer picture of the film’s progress and whether its release plans will hold.
