Zendaya’s 2026 box-office run is already extraordinary, but December could make it even more remarkable. After appearing in two major theatrical releases this year, the actress is preparing to return as Chani in Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated Dune: Part Three.
Zendaya Has Already Had a Massive 2026
The scale of Zendaya’s year became clear with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Marvel sequel opened to approximately $360 million domestically and has since crossed $2 billion worldwide, according to The Associated Press. The performance gives Zendaya another enormous global franchise hit alongside Tom Holland.
She also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which became another major theatrical success. Screen Daily reported that both films were performing strongly at the global box office, placing Zendaya at the center of one of Hollywood’s most commercially significant years.

Why Dune: Part Three Matters
Dune: Part Three arrives on December 18, 2026, giving Zendaya a third major theatrical event in the same calendar year. IMAX confirms the release date and lists Zendaya among the returning stars alongside Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson and Robert Pattinson.
The film is particularly important because Chani has become an increasingly central figure in Villeneuve’s adaptation. The story moves beyond the events of Dune: Part Two, adapting material from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah. That gives Zendaya an opportunity to combine franchise recognition with a more dramatic role.
A Premium-Format Box Office Event
There is also a strong theatrical advantage. IMAX announced that select 70mm screenings went on sale months before release, with participating locations already selling tickets. IMAX has also identified Dune: Part Three as part of its major 2026 Filmed For IMAX slate.
That premium-format positioning matters because Dune has become synonymous with large-scale theatrical presentation. A strong holiday run could therefore extend the franchise’s commercial momentum while adding another major global credit to Zendaya’s 2026 résumé.

December Could Complete the Picture
Nothing about Dune: Part Three’s eventual gross is guaranteed, especially with a crowded holiday marketplace. However, the ingredients are unusually strong: an established franchise, Denis Villeneuve returning, a globally recognizable cast and premium-format demand.
If the film delivers another blockbuster performance, Zendaya’s 2026 will stand out not simply because she appeared in successful movies, but because she became a recurring presence across several of the year’s biggest theatrical events.
December, then, could transform an already extraordinary box-office year into a defining moment in Zendaya’s rise as one of Hollywood’s most commercially powerful young stars.
